Outcomes

Item 1: Update from previous meeting – Nothing to report.

Item 2: Mediawiki discussion – Nothing to report.

Item 3: Plan of action for 2017 – Update on Knowledge Organisation Systems seminar & Edit-a-thon on art and cultural heritage in Malta – Neville provided an update of this event. Both the seminar and the edit-a-thon were very well attended and participants were highly engaged in the discussion and editing. A list of attendees for the edit-a-thon, together with the pages created and edited is available on the event page.

WCM has since received expressions of interest for follow up sessions and further work with other cultural organisations and entities that were represented at the edit-a-thon. A discussion with Heritage Malta was held, where Heritage Malta expressed an interest in participating in Wiki Loves Monuments 2017. Discussions on this will continue in the upcoming weeks.

Fondazzjoni Patrimonju Malti have also expressed an interest in organising a similar edit-a-thon related to their archival material. Neville has met with FPM and will be organising a session on 22nd March.

There has also been interest in integrating Wikipedia editing within educational settings on behalf of the University of Malta, particularly within the Faculty of Media and Knowledge Sciences, and the Department of History. Discussions with both these departments is being held, with a view to this being applied within the 2017-2018 academic year.

Item 4: Copyright reform position paper – Neville explained that a position paper on the European reform for copyright reform has been drafted in collaboration with other Wiki User Groups and Chapters around Europe. The position paper was discussed and it was agreed that this will be sent to Ministers and Shadow Ministers for Culture and Education and Arts Council Malta.

Item 5: Expansion of Board – A discussion was held on whether the Board should be expanded. It was agreed that Raffaella Zammit and Andrew Pace should be appointed as WCM members, with a formal appointment as Board Members being held at the upcoming AGM.
