Outcomes

Item 1: Update from previous meeting – Nothing to report.

Item 2: Mediawiki discussion – Nothing to report

Item 3: Annual Report documentation – Neville explained that WCM’s annual returns had been approved by the Office of the Commissioner for Voluntary Organisations.

Item 4: Plan of action for 2017 – Wiki Loves Monuments – WCM has applied to the Wikimedia Foundation for a grant to carry out Wiki Loves Monuments in Malta 2017 (https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:Project/Rapid/_Wikimedia_Community_User_Group_Malta/Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2017_in_Malta). This application was successful and the full grant was awarded. The grant agreement was discussed and signed by Tony, Toni and Neville.

The various activities related to the contest were discussed in detail and the following activities were agreed upon:

Press launch: Tuesday 29th August
Contest opens: Friday 1st September
Workshop 1: Tuesday 5th September
Workshop 2: Tuesday 19th September
Contest ends: Saturday 30th September
Award ceremony: Saturday 28th October

The composition of the jury was discussed, and it was agreed that the jury will be extended to six people, selected based upon their expertise in the fields of cultural heritage, photography and Wikipedia. The individual jurors will be approached over the coming days and invited to form part of the jury.

Contest prizes were also discussed and it was agreed that sponsorship will be sought. If successful, winners will be offered a prize of either a cash prize or voucher from one of the contest sponsors.

The contest’s communications strategy was discussed and it was agreed that online promotion should focus on Instagram, Facebook and online current affairs/entertainment portals.

Item 5: Accounting and administration – Neville explained that WCM has applied for a VAT number. The corresponding documentation will be received in the next weeks.

The possibility of applying for internet banking was discussed and it was agreed that this is not necessary for the time being. Instead, WCM will be applying for a cheque book.

Item 6: Other matters – Neville held a meeting with Mark Vella from the Office of the European Commission Representation in Malta to discuss possibilities of collaboration on a number of projects related to translation of Wikipedia content to Maltese. These possible collaborations will be explored further over the coming weeks.
